It’s been a bit longer than I like since my last post due to various factors, so here’s a brief update style one.
I’m still settling into my new job which I’m definitely enjoying, despite having trouble dragging myself out of bed in the morning. Outside of work I just feel so busy all of the time!
One of the main things is band practice. The band has had a real reshuffle over the last year. We are back down to one guitarist, although I don’t think we will be looking for a new one in the future. In my opinion we don’t really need one right now, we are getting all our songs to where we want to be without one. Also our singer, Barney, left the band a while ago. We’ve had great times together and it was sad to see him go. Even sadder is the fact that the reason he left was due to him taking his family to live in Florida! XboxLive and Facebook will be our main mode of contact till he comes back for a visit. Still, we have acquired a new singer (who will be unveiled soon) and we have a couple of gigs in the pipeline, so I think we are getting back on track. The last couple of practices have been excellent and really productive.
Speaking of Xbox360, I haven’t actually even played mine in quite a while! I just don’t seem to have the time for it. I’d like to make time at some point, because I was just getting into Dragon’s Dogma plus I’d really like to try Sleeping Dogs because I’ve heard some good things about it. The only gaming I have done lately has been a spot of Blood Bowl: Championship Edition on PC. I’m starting to see why people can be put off Blood Bowl when I’m playing this sometimes. The game is so bastard infuriating and the dice rolls make me want to tableflip (saying that, seeing how my last tabletop league match went I’d say they are pretty accurate! /weep ). Besides that I snatch a few minutes of Bejeweled on Amy’s iPad here and there. That game is a horrible, time draining trap of bright explodey colours. Screw that game.
Tabletop wise the Blood Bowl league is rolling along nicely. I haven’t seen any fatigue in the players which can be a problem with our club for some reason. Played a few boardgames when I can squeeze them in such as Elder Sign (Lovecraft games work in the sense that they fill you with great feeling of hopelessness and despair) and Runebound. I’ve got my eye on the Blood Bowl card game expansion as well. I’ve also had a couple of games of 40K 6th Edition. The games I’ve had have made me realise that at the moment, I not really into space marines. It’s probably down to the lists that I’m writing but the other armies I own right now all look a lot more interesting and quirky. So the old marines will probably get packed away for now, until I get a hankering for power armour again.
Speaking of which, I picked up the new Limited Edition 40K starter box “Dark Vengeance” last week. Every now and then, between the horrible price hikes, failcast nonsense and scrapping my favourite paint range (Foundation), GW do something that makes you go “Wow, that is cool”. And that’s what Dark Vengeance does. Now I was more than likely going to buy this even if just for the mini rulebook, but the models in this starter box are made of pure, undiluted win-juice. Unfortunately, this has strengthened my idea to do a Chaos army soon. On the plus side I managed to swap out all the Dark Angel stuff I was never going to use, for the Chaos stuff from a friends Dark Vengeance, so that’s a good start!
Other stuff I’m doing includes:
- LARP weapon fighting practice. Every couple of weeks, great fun and good exercise.
- Archery classes. The first of my three induction lessons was great and I’m really looking forward to doing some more.
- Possibly giving gig promotions another go. I’ve been chatting to a guy about running semi regular nights at a local venue.
- Monday night Pathfinder. Getting together with my online friends on Mumble and getting some dice rolled. Half-orc Bard is proving to be rather entertaining.
- Despite having to miss a good couple of nights due to schedule issues, Kris and myself are still making terrain for our future Necromunda campaign. The stuff is starting to look excellent and Kris has taught me how to use weathering powders. Hopefully I can get a post up soon showing off what we’ve done so far.
That’s it for now, later this evening I’ll be working on the next chapter of the Blood Bowl fantasy football league so keep your peepers peeled!
