I feel bad. I haven’t got much to update with at the moment, but it does look like I’ve got a lot of goodies in the pipeline for the next couple of months. So hopefully you will be seeing posts concerning:
Games Workshop Games Day UK 2010:
This Sunday I shall be waking early in the morning (in fact earlier than I do on a work day, urgh) to get driven to this year’s Games Day, near Birmingham. I have not been before so I’m not entirely sure what to expect. I am aware that there will be many game tables set up, demonstrations of new and upcoming games (including the Blood Bowl Legendary Edition video game I believe) and what I am dreading the most, lots and lots of annoying kids. I’ll try and get some interesting photos as long as there isn’t a “no photography” policy (even then I’ll try to sneak off a few cheeky snaps). Best thing about this day? It’s pretty much free. Rhys, the owner of my local gaming shop, got 3 free tickets and offered one to me! I have offered to buy him breakfast on the journey up there to say thanks for driving us.
You may have seen an earlier post I created showing the making of my character for the Deathwatch RPG. Well it seems that when we get back from Games Day we will be headed straight to the Games Shop to play our first evening of Xenos butchering! I’ll do a little write up afterwards letting you know how I found the system and just what our squad got up to. We’ve had a mission briefing (that I hope to show you later) and it appears we are entering a planet infested with Orks to hopefully stop and WAAAGH before it even kicks off. Not familiar with the term? Well here’s an excellent explanation from Warhammer40k.wikia.com:
“Such a Waaagh! is a cross between a holy crusade and a pub crawl, with a bit of genocide thrown in for good measure. Thousands of Orks will gather together, drawn to the power of a single dominant Ork called a Warboss, who is bigger and more intelligent than the Orks around him. Then the Orks will set off to find an enemy to fight and beat. Ork Waaaghs! will sweep whole planetary systems away and destroy armies and fleets in tides of bloodlust and carnage, and only once the Orks have killed every available enemy will they start to fight amongst themselves again.”
So, you know, fingers crossed. Just billions of innocent lives depend on our success, no pressure.
I’ve also been roped into building and painting a Deathwatch Drop Pod that we will be using for our deployment in-game. I built it last night (with a sprinkling of swear words) so maybe I’ll do another step by step painting log.
I received Version 2 of the rule book for this game in the post the other day. Haven’t had a chance to read any of it yet but it could be an interesting addition to my already bulging hobby schedule. I’ll print out the free Dwarf and Orc fleets from the Spartan Games website and if it turns out to be a fun game I’ll invest in some models and keep you updated on anything.
Lots of gigs:
Earlier this year I posted that I haven’t been to all that many gigs lately and I should really rectify that. Well since then I’m booked in to see Deftones on November 19th, Torche on November 22nd and 65daysofstatic on November 24th! Here’s some vids:
On top of all this my band has their very first gig booked for October 29th! This is all rather exciting to me and good goddam I’m going to attempt to rock the living shit that night (please excuse my rock and roll potty mouth).
Somehow I am also managing to squeeze in watching some comedy in November. Matt Berry on November 3rd and Armstrong and Miller on November 14th.
Wow, I really am busy during the run up to xmas! Best get on with it!
Take care folks!
