So today I’ll be showing you my Tyranids. These are the beauties that won me the last tournament I played in. Painting them became quite tedious towards the end (you’ll understand why later), but luckily my paint scheme was fairly quick and simple.
I first undercoated with a brown spray paint from Army Painter, then the majority of the model was painted a khaki colour. After that I painted the carapace dark green and added markings with light green then a bone colour. Details like the tongues, eyes and claws were done and the whole thing got a liberal wash of Devlan Mud. On some of the larger models I painted claws, teeth and spines after the devlan mud and washed them with Sepia to give them more of a boney look.
1-3. Trygon : I forgot to put another figure next to this guy for the photos for scale which is a shame because he’s pretty impressive. Must be about 6-7 inches tall which is massive considering the average Space Marine is just over a inch tall.
4-10. Tervigons : No model actually exists for this choice yet so I had to build my own. I started off with the carnifex kit as a base. To this I glued on little balls made from tinfoil to its back. This is to represent the “egg-sacks” that produce the termigants this creature spawns. Then I covered the tinfoil balls in tissue paper and covered that with slightly watered down PVA glue. I’m pretty happy with the finished article. (I did actually steal this idea from a project log I saw on the Warseer forums).
11. Zoanthropes : Despite varnishing these after I painted them a small amount of paint has chipped off 😦 I’ll have to repair them some day. Stupid metal models.
12. Hive Guard : See previous comment. Stupid metal models.
13. Mycetic Spore : The drop pod for my army. Again Games Workshop have not released a model for this so I had to get inventive. Plasma Hatchers from Mega Bloks. Just a bit of modelling for the lash whips sprouting from the top, and a paint job and we are done.
14-16. Termigants : If I never have to paint another one of these ever again I will be a happy man.
17. This is why. 76 of the little buggers.
